The Many Benefits of Essential Oils

The other day I was doing some research on health and well being. I started to notice a lot of information on the benefits of essential oils. I realized that in more than one or even two ways, essential oils can be extremely helpful. I know that lavender is helpful with relaxing the mind as I mentioned some in a previous post. But, from what I was now reading, it can even help with physical illnesses such as the flu. Interesting, I thought! So I am going to share with you a little bit of what I have found!

First of all, what are essential oils? Well, the exact definition that I found is that an essential oil is a “ natural oil typically obtained by distillation and having the characteristic fragrance of the plant or other source from which it is extracted.” Essential oils are highly concentrated and have a strong aroma. They have a tremendous amount of healing properties. They are used by many cultures from around the world and have been used for many years. A few of the many benefits of essential oils include:

  • The healing of skin conditions
  • Fighting the common cold or flu like symptoms
  • Relaxing your body
  • Relieving sore muscles and pain
  • Balancing hormones
  • Reducing wrinkles

These benefits can be possible with different types of essential oils. For example Lavender essential oil is great for relaxing the body, Rosemary is wonderful for your hair, and Clary Sage is great for helping balance your hormones. With precaution, there are even some essential oils that can be ingested to help with weightloss and some that can help alleviate a stomach ache.

I have an herb garden which included rosemary, sage, yerba buena (spearmint), and lavender. I usually harvest and hang them to dry. I then use them as teas or to burn. But, with time, I do plan on attempting to make my own essential oils here at home. I have heard that it is a difficult process. But once I try it out, I will let you all know how it turns out. For those of you that do not have an herb garden or do not want to make your own essential oils, I have found a lot of different oils at Sprouts Farmers Market. You can also purchase some on Etsy or Amazon. At all of those places you can also purchase an oil diffuser to fill your rooms with the aroma of an essential oil of your choice. I hope that you found this post helpful. If you did, please share for your family and friends to enjoy as well. Namaste, my friends.
